Modi Ji Asked To Setup Woman Safety Panel Soon
Bringing the issue of woman’s safety in Delhi, chairperson of Delhi Commission of Women (Swati Maliwal) has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the letter, she has asked PM to establish a high level committee on woman’s safety for the capital. Furthering her willingness, she informed through her letter that Nirbhaya’s Fund is not getting utilized properly since its inception o December 16, 2012. The fund was set after Nirbhaya incident of gang rape. Swati Maliwal quoted that “Delhi’s government was required to utilize the fund of Nirbhaya Foundation for the installation of CCTV cameras in DTC buses. But, nothing has been done as yet and the file is lying with centre”.
She insisted on the fact that a delay in the establishment of Committee is posing threat to the woman’s safety in Delhi. The women are paying the price for a tussle between State and Central government. Venturing deeper into her statement, she said that Central and State government should join hands together for applying safety measures in Delhi. It is the collective effort that would bring desirable changes in Delhi because it has got ill-famed as the Rape Capital of India. Stating her problem in the letter, she went on to say repeated requests had not led the committee to be formed that should have constituted Union home minister and comprise of the Delhi chief minister, lieutenant governor, DCW chairperson and the police commissioner.
Swati Maliwal also commented that Lieutenant Governor has not held any kind of meeting since the news was out for commissioning a committee. Even at the initiative of MHA Directive, nothing has been done so far. She also brought to notice that Special task force formed by the government after Nirbhaya case was abandoned by MHA in 2016. She prominently stated in the letter that if the committee will be formed; crimes against women would surely decrease. Along with this, the letter made it evident that Swati Maliwal insisted on speeding up the formation of thana-level committees, enactment of Delhi Victim Compensation Scheme, digitization of police records, installating CCTV cameras in Delhi, construction of toilets and courts.
Through her letter to the PM, Maliwal is willing to convey about increasing crimes against women and girl child. It is a step towards strengthening women power in Delhi and trying to make it a better place for living.
