Again a very important and major step wise taken for the welfare of students of IIM Trichy. Now the POST GRADUATION PROGRAMME IN MANAGEMENT (PGPM) from the IIM has declared equivalent to master’s degree of an Indian university for the purpose of admission to higher studies. As a result of this the certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) will now allow the students of PGPM students from IIM Trichy to take part in foreign universities and also apply for government jobs as their PGPM qualification would be treated on par with master’s degree of an Indian university.
A meeting was held between the IIM Trichy and the equivalence committee on January 5,2017 for the equivalence proposal. Later on January 21,2017 this proposal was placed in a meeting before the governing council. This meeting took place in new Delhi at AIU House. After listening to all the aspects and a long discussion between the both the AIU granted equivalence certificate to PG programme in management of IIM Trichy. As IIMs are the premier institutions under the HRD ministry, this would also be a reason for the acceptance of this proposal.
The eleventh IIM Trichy has three academic programme: first a two year full time residential PGPM,, a full time residential fellow programme in management (FPM) for doctoral candidates and a two-year postgraduate programme in business management(PGPBM) for working executives at its Chennai campus and all this is set up by the HRD ministry.
Dr.Prafulla Agnihotri,the director of IIM Trichy and the students are very happy with this agreement as this allow them to be equal among all and get email rights. The students life is now become easy of IIM Trichy who are interested in pursuing higher education from there only due to this equivalence proposal.
With this move IIM Trichy now joins IIMs Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Indore, Bangalore, Kolkata and Kozhikode as an institute with equivalence certificate for PGDM, and now this institution will also treated the same as all others institution in this field and the students get more benefits and equal rights. AIU has also stated that the condition of AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) approval and NBA (National Board of Accreditation) accreditation will not be applicable in the case of IIMs.
With the current accreditation, IIM Trichy has joined the list of institutes which have similar recognition for PGDM course which include Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, IIM Kolkata, IIM Bangalore, IIM Indore, IIM Lucknow and IIM Ahmedabad. AIU has also clarified that AICTE and MBA approval is not applicable and mandatory for the programmes offered by Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).
Recently, the Union Cabinet approved IIM Bill 2017 through which greater autonomy will be given to these premier B-Schools to award degrees.
