On Friday sunup thirty-one travelers out of which the majority of them were school children, were wounded when the school bus in which they were traveling in slides off the road and fell into a 25-meter deep ravine as per the sources told India Today. The ill-fated school bus was carrying more than 31 passengers comprising the driver and a teacher. The motor vehicle met with the misfortune at 8.20 am at Samlehu rural community near Dehar positioned forty-five km from the regional headquarters, Mandi. The wounded school children fit into Mandwayar and other townships and the bus belongs to a private school situated in Dehar.
Sundarnagar SDM Rajeev Kumar alleged that ‘more than 30 people were traveling in the bus and a total 25 dangerously injured have been referred to Regional Hospital Mandi. 23 school children have been admitted to Sundar Nagar hospital and the rescue operation was carried out with the help of locals who also helped to transport injured to the hospital’. The chief grounds of an accident is not known but eyewitnesses alleged that driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating large potholes created by the road widening work and so the district administration has ordered a probe to find out the cause of the accident.
Prior year also a major bus accident was occurred in which 14 people were killed and around 21 were injured when a private bus rolled off the road and fell into Beas River near Mandi. The bus driver was on the way to Kullu from Mandi and bus fell into River , at that time approximately 30 people were traveling in the bus at the time of accident and the injured were taken to Zonal hospital Mandi for healing.
All present, all victims are students of Vivekanand School, Dehar and the school authority provided traveling competence to the students approaching from the distant places. Mandi DSP Mr. Hitesh Lakhan Pal alleged that a case has been registered underneath the Motor Vehicle Act.
