During the Memoriam montage at Oscars 2017 the Academy pays homage to all the list Hollywood icon and it was heartening to see the name of Bollywood legend OM PURI. This move was applauded by many Bollywood stars on social media they were disappointed as the Bollywood star icon is completely lost and he wasn’t even mentioned in the list.
Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is riding high on success after his last film ‘Raees’ did wonders at the box office, slammed Bollywood Award functions, for not remembering the late veteran actor Om Puri in the recently held award shows. He expressed this after Om Puri was honored at the 89th Annual Academy Awards ceremony in the ‘In Memoriam’ montage in Dolby Theatre on February 28 2017. This award is which are the most prestigious and celebrated award functions in the world, Several Bollywood celebs express happiness on social media account for remembering Om Puri in awards ceremony.
Om puri died of heart attack on January 6, in Mumbai. He got a musical tribute by Grammy and Tony-nominated singer and songwriter Sara Bareilles. But in India Nawazuddin Siddiqui has lashed out Indian film industry for being insensitive towards contribution of the late iconic actor “Om Puri”.
Siddiqui wrote expressing his anger on its twitter account on 27 Feb 2017:”@TheAcademy #Oscars paid homage 2 late #OmPuri, But in #bollywood award functions nobody converse single word for his contribution… SHAME.”
Earlier om puri and Siddiqui worked in Bajrangi Bhaijaan in which Om Puri had a small role. Both these actors had to work together in Nandita Das’s next Manto. The actor died at the age of 66 was popular international circuit for his performances in movies like City of Joy and Wolf, East Is East, Gandhi, The Ghost and the Darkness, My Son the Fanatic, the Parole Officer.
Meanwhile om puri’s family expressed their heartfelt gratitude for remembering Om Puri at international platform. Ishaan and Nandita Puri said, ” Only Indian actor who worked consistently in Bollywood cinema and Hollywood for the last 25 years, without a fuss and letting his work speak for him, today the Academy of Motion Pictures remembered his contribution at 89th Award ceremony .Thus he is the first and only Indian actor to be acknowledged. Thank you everyone and the Academy. We miss you a lot OM. “
