Curfew In Lakhimpur Kheri Uttar Pradesh

Curfew was forced in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh yesterday night subsequent to fights flanked by two communities over an offensive video that went viral on Whatsapp. The city not seen or attended communal clashes since decades. It was passive even when the country burning after the Babri mosque destruction in Ayodhya.

Curfew has been an uncommon thing for the city as this is only the second time that it has been forced; the last time was in 1984 subsequent to the murder of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The tension was infusing since Wednesday when the objectionable video went viral on Whatsapp. A protest was lodged at the city Kotwali. Taking speedy action police not only recognized the two accused but arrested and sent them to supervision yesterday.

Akash Deep District magistrate of Lakhimpur Kheri district told IANS that ‘there is tension in the city but no occurrence of violence has been reported so far. Two young men who shot and disseminated the video making objectionable statements regarding deities of another community have been in detention and sent to jail’. He also added that a person has been reported to have been offended in a clash; on the other hand, he is reported to be out of danger.

The district subsequent to the video went viral was accumulated by tensions as it forced to shut down of ships and people commanded the police to hand over the accused to them as per the report of Indian express. The duo indicted had fled to Kanpur after passing the video and were stolen from there. Lakhimpur is 165km from the state capital Lucknow.

On the other hand, tension rises when the accused were being taken to jail. People in huge numbers congregated there and demanded that charges beneath the National Security Act be forced adjacent to the accused even as they protested on the road. Kheri district magistrate Akashdeep told Hindustan times that ‘to uphold law and order curfew orders were issued and the action taken subsequent to an incident of firing and destruction that caused injury to a person. The injured is being given treatment’.

The district magistrate added that ‘district administration is on high alert and police patrolling has been augmented to shun any troublesome incident’. The district police believe that additional people could be involved in shooting the video and they are surveying the issue. In the intervening time, heavy police force has been positioned in the city. The DIG and IG arrived at Kheri previous night and reviewed the circumstances.

All schools and colleges have been told to stay closed on Friday by the district magistrate. The district magistrate and superintendent of police i.e. Manoj Kumar Jha examine the city and spoke to the people in search of their cooperation in preserving law and order.

There are many important things to discern regarding this incident

  • The accused are friends who subsist in a small town near the city and have been arrested produced in court and propelled to judicial custody as per officials. They created the offensive video and which after on went viral. Six persons have been under arrest so far.
  • One of them is a twelfth class student who was lately disqualified from school
  • As per the district magistrate of Lakhimpur Kheri district, there is a tension in the city but no incident of aggression has been reported. As per the officials, the video was shot on Wednesday and the fathers of accused were detained at the district police station.
  • In the meantime, tension gripped the entire city and markets shut and people started rallying around the district police station. The boys were detained and magistrate arrived at a police station to seize them under judicial custody previous to the situation could turn worse, but the tension still triumphs.
