Controversial Statements by CM Yogi Adityanath:
Yogi Adityanath’s relation to Controversial statements is quite popular. In his 30-day tenure as the CM of the Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath twice said controversial statements.
On March 29, CM Yogi said that ‘Asanas’ of the Surya Namaskar resembles with the postures of Namaz. During a Yog Mahotsav in Lucknow, Yogi said, “The namaz offered by Muslims resembles different postures and asanas of Surya Namaskar including pranayama. What a beautiful example of harmony (between two religions). But some ‘bhogis’ who do not believe in yoga, indulged in dividing the society into lines of caste, creed, religion and region among others.” Through these remarks, Yogi tried to bridge a gap between Hindu and Muslim, but his remarks didn’t go well with all. “All asanas (postures) in Surya Namaskar, pranayama activities are similar to the way Namaz is offered by our Muslim brothers. But nobody ever tried to bring them together because few people were interested only in ‘bhoga’, not yoga,” CM Yogi added.
On 17th April, speaking about the issue of triple talaq, Yogi compared the troubles of Muslim women with Draupadi. The Muslim women are forced to suffer because of the outdated social practice of “triple talaq”. Yogi Adityanath also said that people who were silent on the issue of triple talaq were as blameworthy as those who were silent when Draupadi was disrobed.
