Singer Sonu Nigam goes bald to answer a Muslim cleric open offer of Rs 10 lakh reward for anyone who would shave Sonu’s hair. The 43-year old singer addressed the media at his house today to clarify his stand on the issue. The singer was trolled by Twitterati and various organizations. Some even said that they are planning to move court against the singer.
Sonu Nigam shook the twitter with his tweets on April 17 questioning why one needed to be woken up by the ‘Azaan’ in the morning. This thing didn’t go well with the Muslim cleric who gets angry after his tweets on ‘Azaan’ and announced a Rs 10 lakh fatwa to anyone who “can shave his hair, put a garland of old torn shoes around his neck and travel him around the country. I personally announce an award of Rs 10 lakhs for that person” Earlier in the day, Sonu announced his decision of getting bald and tweeted, “Today at 2 pm Aalim will come to my place and shave my head. Keep your 10 lakhs ready Maulavi.” As per Indianexpress.com, the ace singer said, “Azaan is important, not loudspeaker. Aarti is important, not loudspeaker”. Before getting bald, Sonu said, “I’ll shave my head in a while. It’s not a challenge. It’s a request. What are you doing in this country? I am a believer, but I don’t think my religion is the best but yours isn’t. I don’t believe in that. You have to fight fanaticism, you can’t be quiet,” as per Indianexpress.com report.
The world-class singer invited media at his house and said to them that he believes in all faiths and never said anything any particular religion. He was branded as an anti-Muslim after his tweets. But Sonu cleared that for him, Mohd Rafi is a like a father figure, how can he be an Anti-Muslim. “Jiss insaan ne poori Zindagi Mohd Rafi Sahab ko apna pita maana hai, jiske guru ka naam Ustad Gulam Mustafa Khan sahab hai, us insan ke baare mein koi aisa soche, kahe ya taunt kare ki anti-Muslim hai, toh ye meri problem nahi hai, ye aapki problem hai. (I am someone who spent my entire life idolizing Mohd Rafi as my father figure, I am someone whose teacher is Ustad Gulam Mustafa Khan, and I am being labeled anti-Muslim… it’s not my problem but the other person’s.),” said Sonu in the press conference.
Sonu also said that his driver is a Muslim and he considers himself secular. The 43-year old singer said that he has the right to have his opinion and he talked about social topic and it wasn’t every about any religion. For the last two days, Sonu Nigam is receiving criticism for his tweets everywhere. When Sonu was asked why he was shaving his head, he said, “It’s not an agitation, not a challenge that I am throwing someone’s way. I am shaving my head just to show that the person cutting my hair is a Muslim. It’s all about interpreting things the right way. I exhort the media to present it like that and not in a confrontational way.” He invited the hair stylist Aalim Hakim to cut his hair to answer to a West Bengal’s cleric.
Now, it will be the question that the Muslim cleric will pay Rs 10 lakh to the singer or not.
