The worst part of growing technology is the growing cyber crimes as many incidents are taking place which revolves around the term “CYBER CRIME”. A global cyber attack leveraging hacking tools that is suspected to be developed by the US National Security Agency has now became the reason of infecting tens of thousands of computers in near about 100 countries, which has disrupted Britain’s health system as well as global shipper FedEx.

Cyber criminals tricked the victims by making them opening some malicious malware attachments delivered in the spam emails that appeared of having invoices, security warnings, job offers, and other legitimate files. The ransomware encrypted data on the PCs, and demanded payments of $300 to $600 for restoring access. According to the Security researchers these cyber criminals have perceived the victims paying via the digital currency bitcoin, though they have no idea about what percent had given in to the extortionists.
Researchers associated with security software maker Avast said that they had observed 57,000 infections in almost 99 countries, including Russia, Ukraine and Taiwan as the top targets. As per Asian countries reports no major breaches on Saturday, but officials in the region were scrambling to check and the full extent of the damage may not be known for some time.
China’s official news agency “Xinhua” said this cyber attack has affected some secondary schools and universities, without specifying the number or identifying them. The most troublesome attacks were recounted in Britain on Friday, as the hospitals and clinics were enforced to turn away patients after losing access to PCs. It was shocking for International shipper FedEx Corp and so it said some of its Windows PCs were too infected. “We are executing remediation steps as quickly as possible.”

From Argentina to Spain
Vikram Thakur, research manager of security software maker Symantec said, “Only a small number of US-headquartered organizations were hit because the hackers appear to have begun the campaign by targeting organizations in Europe.” Thakur added, The time they turned their attention towards the US, spam filters had recognized the new threat and highlighted the ransomware-laden emails as malicious.
Late on Friday, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said it was aware of reports of this ransomware, was sharing this information with the domestic as well as the foreign partners and was ready for lending technical support. In Spain telecommunications company Telefonica was also one amongst the targets, though as per reports the attack was limited to some PCs on an inner network and had failed to affect the clients or services. Portugal Telecom and Telefonica Argentina both said that they were also targeted.
In a statement, the Spanish government said, “the attacks did not disrupt the provision of services or networks operations of the victims.” This infection was made so effective that it effected almost 100 countries all round the globe. How intelligent the developer would be who managed to create such a harmful virus that was able to attack 100 counties along with Europe.
Russia’s interior and emergencies ministries, along with its biggest bank, Sberbank, said they were also targeted. On a statement published in its website, the interior ministry said about 1,000 computers had been infected but they had localized the virus. A statement given by the emergencies ministry of Russian to news agencies it had prevented the cyber attacks while, Sberbank said the cyber security systems it has prevented viruses from entering the systems.
