8 Defamation Cases Against Arvind Kejriwal, Defame Indian Politician


Going by the sheer of number of libel filed against nation’s capital chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. It is seems like either peoples are finding it easy to file a defamation against Kejriwal or enjoys leaving serious allegations against people with evidence.
In the political circles the anti graft crusader turned politician that has earned the distinction of slander man of Indian politics. As Arun Jaitley slap another defamation suit on Kejriwal and after this the AAP convener gets his 11th such case, three case out of which  have been dismissed by court.

With every passing year the number of cases against Arvind Kejriwal is increasing every time.  At the time of Delhi Assembly election, after analyzing the affidavit filed by Kejriwal, that 10 criminal cases were registered against him, the Association of Democratic Reforms said.

The Association of Democratic Reforms had said that Arvind Kejriwal was number two in terms of criminal cases registered against the candidates contesting the Delhi Assembly election. Although, so many defamation cases that were registered against Kejriwal but only a couple of them got media attention including Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Pawan Khera, the Political secretary to Delhi Chief Minister filled First defamation case against Arvind Kejriwal in 2013. Kejriwal was yet to take the world of politics by surprise after defeating Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshi. Pawan Khera accused Arvind Kejriwal  in a television show, of using false and filthy language against Sheila Dikshit.
In 2013, Karkardooma court issues summons to Arvind Kejriwal, On Pawan Khera petition but in this case Kejriwal had refused to seek bail.

After six month of Pawan Khera defamation suit, Union Minister Kapil Sibal’s son Amit Sibal filed another defamation case against Arvind Kejriwal. In a press conference, Kejriwal had alleged, a conflict of interest over Amit Sibal appearing in the Supreme Court for telecom major Vodafone in a tax related case when his father was the Union Minister for Communications.
Soon after, the defamation complaint by Amit Sibal, in July 2013,  the Patiala House court issued summons to Kejriwal. Kejriwal sought a permanent exemption from appearance in the case, in December last year.

In 2013, lawyer Surender Kumar Sharma filled  third defamation case against accused Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia of defaming him by denying AAP ticket for Delhi Assembly election after announcing him as party candidate. He claimed that AAP candidates approached him and requested to contest in Assembly election on party ticket saying that Kejriwal was pleased with his social services.

He said that he filled application form to contest in the elections  after being told to do so by Manish Sisodia. Later, he denied.
According to a newspaper reports, Sharma claimed that Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia and AAP leader used unlawful, defamatory and derogatory words  against him that lowered his reputation in the society and in this matter  the  trial court issued summons to Arvind Kejriwal in 2013. This year, the Delhi High Court refused to stay the proceedings against Kejriwal in March.

The fourth defamation case against Arvind Kejriwal was filed by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.
In 2014, during a  press conference in the parliamentary elections while reading out the list of corrupt people, Kejriwal had mentioned Nitin Gadkari’s name.
He alleged Arvind Kejriwal  that he had defamed him by including his name in the list of  India’s most corrupt peoples. Delhi court had summoned Arvind Kejriwal as an accused. Arvind Kejriwal had refused to took bail  in the case saying that he was not criminal.
The trial court had then sent Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody and the trial was put on hold by the Supreme Court.

The fifth case against Arvind Kejriwal was filed by BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri. He accused him of making baseless allegations against him. In this matter the Patiala House court issued summons against Kejriwal later in july Arvind Kejriwal had was granted bail in this case.

Delhi District Cricket Association’s Chetan Chauhan   filed a case against Arvind Kejriwal in February 2016. In this case, Delhi court issued summons to Arvind Kejriwal, in January this year

Today, Arun Jaitley filed suit against Arvind Kejriwal over senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani for Rs 10 crore by  using the word crook for Jaitley during a cross questioning. later he said that he was asked by Arvind Kejriwal to use the word.
Therefore two more petitions of alleged defamation were filed against Arvind Kejriwal for using a derogatory language for policemen. But, Court dismissed the plea saying that ‘koi thulla’ remark by Arvind Kejriwal was neither aimed at an identifiable individual nor at the entire Delhi Police establishment.
