According to the claim made by Anurag Tiwari’s parents he was under pressure and they also shared that he had told them about a threat to his life a few months ago. Hours after UP police lodged a murder case in linking with the death of Anurag Tiwari, Karnataka-cadre IAS officer, on Monday the state government suggested a CBI probe into the matter. Arvind Kumar, Principal secretary (Home) was quoted in a saying of ANI, “It has been decided that investigation will be transferred to CBI.”
Earlier in the day, the family members of 36-year-old IAS officer had met CM Yogi Adityanath and pushed for a CBI probe. As per his post-mortem indication, he had passed away due to asphyxia (suffocation). However, the police said that “an SIT team investigating the case was waiting for the test reports of his viscera and blood samples as well as heart in order to confirm the exact cause of his death.
Tiwari’s family has suspected that he was murdered at the order of corrupt officers as he was on his way to expose a “scam” in the department of food, consumer affairs and civil supplies in Bengaluru the place he was posted as commissioner.
After meeting the CM, mother of Anurag Tiwari, Sushila Devi told media, “We demanded CBI inquiry in order to find out why he was killed.” At that time, Tiwari’s brother Mayank also said that “they were not satisfied with the police investigation and so they approached to the CM who had assured them that justice would be done.” He also added that “the CM had asked them to wait till the SIT probe is completed.”
Mayank had also written to the Prime Minister’s Office for demanding a CBI inquiry for his brother’s death. In his letter, he has written “Anurag was an honest officer and wanted to work for the betterment of the society. A few days back, Anurag had told me (Mayank) that he had stumbled upon a major scam in the Food and Civil Supplies department of Karnataka, which he wanted to inform the PMO and CBI.”
The state police had made a Special Investigation Team for the investigation of the death on May 18. On Wednesday morning, Tiwari’s dead body was found near a state guest house in the Hazratganj area of Lucknow. He had celebrated his 36th birthday the prior night.
