On Friday, a team of the Central Bureau of Investigation visited the premises of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and recorded his statement in a case against him related to alleged irregularities in the Aam Aadmi Party’s ‘Talk to AK’ campaign. However, the CBI sources denied that it was a raid, claiming it was just for seeking clarification. While reacting to the CBI raid on Manish Sisodia, media advisor to Sisodia Arunoday Prakash tweeted today, “If they think Manish Sisodia will get afraid and stop working for schools after CBI raids, they are mistaken! Highly mistaken!”

Prakash tweeted in his another tweet that “Earlier CM Arvind Kejriwal’s office was raided! Centre using caged parrot to victimize voices of dissent!” The CBI had registered a PE in January this year on the basis of a complaint filed by the Vigilance Department of the Delhi government. As per the rules, no search or raid could be conducted under a PE. In a complaint, it is alleged that a consultant of a big public relations company was hired by the Delhi government to promote “Talk to AK” (Talk to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal) campaign and an offer of Rs 1.5 crore was arranged for the same. The CM Arvind Kejriwal’s media advisor also criticized the ‘caged parrot’ CBI on Twitter by saying, “When not a penny was spent on Talk to AK programme, how does CBI come into the picture? Caged parrot not briefed properly by masters again.”

Talking about the case, it was alleged that in spite of objections from the Principal Secretary, the government went ahead with the offer and the consultant spend money thus creating accountability for the government. According to the official sources, the CBI has registered a first-stage inquiry to investigate all these allegations and is also checking the alleged role of Sisodia and others into it. In 2015 as well, in a different case, the CBI raided Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Principal Secretary’s office in an alleged corruption case, which attracted angry reactions from the chief minister who accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to “intimidate” him and his government. Giving back to the CBI raids, Delhi CM Kejriwal had tweeted, “Wow Modiji! You take bribe and register cases against us. Steal and also be audacious about it.”
