Being 21st century people we can consider our self to be much capable for taking things into a positive way, we live in the society of men and women. What about the third gender, we never take them as a part of our society, don’t they deserve the right of education?

Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU) has decided to provide free education to transgenders from its July session. So now the transgenders desiring to pursue a course in tourism or psychology have a helping hand. IGNOU is encouraging the third gender to pursue higher studies, the main motive behind this is to bringing  the universalisation and democratisation in education. So far IGNOU has provided free education to sex workers, jail inmates and weavers.

Manorama Singh the regional director, Lucknow, said “free education to transgenders will be provided across the country.” There are over 3,000 study centres and 54 regional centres in India. In UP alone, there are close to 150 study circles. “We have sought help from transgender activists. Our target is to get enrolled at least five transgenders this time. The idea is to promote education among the third gender,” said Singh.

As per the Officials, there is hardly any provision for transgenders to pursue a regular bachelor course in any university, By the ongoing time the upliftment all these things should be also consider in the Global India. As, even if there is an option in the admission form for transgenders, they are shooed away because they lack formal documents. So, government should work regarding these things, the Transgenders belong to our same society and they have the full right to leave freely.
IGNOU this time came with a better idea as the Transgenders who are enrolling themselves in IGNOU for higher studies will be at edge as if  they don’t have to provide any documents like transfer and migration certificates. Their identify can be verified by documents like Adhar card, or any other certificate issued by central government, state government, medical officer or any other competent authority.

Singh said, “like other students, transgenders can enroll in any programme of their choice, and all kind of help will be extended to them during the course tenure.”

IGNOU is offering 228 academic and professional courses in psychology, social sciences, sciences, toursim, education, management, rural development and others. And the admissions at IGNOU for July session are already underway. The last date for applying for certificate programmes is July 16 while for other programmes, the last date is July 31.
