A new desktop service and a corresponding Android-based application ‘Aaykar Setu’ is launched by Finance Minister Arun Jaitely on Moday, this app will allow entities track TDS, pay taxes and apply for permanent account number (PAN). It will also help people link their 12-digit Aadhaar with PAN card.
Launching the service, Jaitley said that, “This e-initiative would help in reducing physical interface between assesses and tax assessing authorities and thereby minimising the chances of any tax harassment.”
The name ‘Aaykar Setu’ is a hindi word for ‘Income Tax Bridge’ for tax payers.
According to the minister, this app is in the series of actions taken by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to provide better taxpayer services and reduce grievances. It is also a step by the Income Tax department to directly communicate with the taxpayers on multiple informative and useful tax services aimed at providing tax information at their fingertips.
“This is a very important step forward by the CBDT and the principle reason being technology as a very powerful tool becomes an enabler. (With the app) most of the work the assessee can discharge without any external help sitting at home,” Jaitley said.
To download this app, user have to give the missed call at 7306525252, after giving a missed call user will get a link in the message box. Once the link is received one can click on the link for downloading the app. This is the first app launched by CBDT.
Aaykar Setu comes up with many facilities such as various tax tools, live chat facility, dynamic updates, and important links to various processes within the Income Tax Department in a single module.
