In December 2017 West Bengal SET Will Be Held, Application Released


(WB SET) 2017, the West Bengal College Service Commission recently announced that the West Bengal State Eligibility Test examination will be held on 3rd December. The State Eligibility Test is being conducted by the WBCSC for determining the eligibility of candidates for appointment as Assistant Professor in institutions and universities of the state, as per the UGC guidelines. And the online registration for the  West Bengal SET 2017 has already commenced from August 1 and the concluding date is 31st August.

Till now no official notice has been released regarding the release of Admit card for the said exam, it probably expected that it will release before a month or before two weeks. The candidates aspiring to be appointed as following

  • Lecturer in Arts
  • Lecturer in Science
  • Lecturer in Social Sciences

Every year thousands of students register themselves for the said course and this year till now more than 1 lakh students have registered themselves. West Bengal SET exam will be conducted for total 30 subjects. The examination will be held at multiple centers in 20 cities. The applicants can choose from 20 test centres according to their preferences. The candidates will not be allowed to change their option for Test Centre later.

In the colleges or universities (Government & Non-Government) in West Bengal are required to qualify WB SET.

The applications for WB SET 2017 through online mode only and hence the candidate has to submit their applications through official portal. 1,000 INR as application fee the general category applicants have to pay, while for the reserved category (SC/ST/OBC, and PWD) applicants, the fee is 500 INR. The applicants can pay the fee through online mode or by e-challan generated during the submission of application form.In the case of e-challan, the applicants shall make payment at any branch office of the United Bank of India.

The General category applicants need at least 55% score (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent degree in the appropriate subject from UGC recognized universities or institutions. 50% is the minimum percentage requirement for reserved category candidates. The applicants who are in final semester or year with their results still awaited can also apply.

Even, the Ph.D. degree applicants whom P.G. has been completed by 19th Sept 1991 will be given a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks for appearing in SET.

The Commission has uploaded the syllabus of West Bengal SET 2017 on its official web portal.The State Eligibility Test will comprise of 3 objective papers.

  • Paper 1 will have 60 questions, out of which the candidates will have to answer only 50 questions.
  • Paper 1 will be of general nature to test reasoning ability and general awareness of the candidate.
  • Paper 2 and 3 will have 50 and 75 questions respectively, based on the subject chosen by candidates.

West Bengal SET 2017 exam will be conducted all the 3 papers in a single day. Each question will carry 2 marks and there will be no negative marking in the test. And the timing are as following:

  • Paper 1 will be conducted from 9.30 am to 10.45 am
  • Paper 2 from 11.15 am to 12.30 pm
  • Paper 3 will be conducted from 2 pm to 4.30 pm .

The minimum qualifying marks in each paper for general category is 40% and 35% for reserved category. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has adopted new methods in which, top 6% appearing applicants in all 3 papers will be declared qualified for the post of Assistant Professor. The interested applicants are recommended to appear in their post graduation’s subject only. The applicants who want to appear for subjects other than the provided 30 subjects can appear in Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR-NET).
