Around 15 people were killed and 40 others injured after a suicide bomber targetted an army truck in Pakistan’s southwest Balochistan on Saturday night in which 8 soldiers were included. The incident took place when the truck was passing through Quetta Pishin bus stop.
The injured peoples were immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital. Sarfaraz Bugti, Balochistan Home Minister said, ” 15 people have been declared dead in today’s explosion and 32 were injured.”
A senior official of the Bomb Disposal Squad told Pakistan site Dawn,” A man riding a motorbike came close to the army truck and blew himself up,” It also reported that around 25 to 30 kilograms of explosives were used in that suicide attack and the explosion was so loud that its sound was heard all across the city.
The intensity of the explosion was so high that even there were almost three fire tenders which had immediately reached that spot and also could not control it in time. The site of the explosion is in the close proximity to the Balochistan Assembly, the Quetta Law College, the private hospital and many more offices.
A department of the Pakistan military said,” around 10 security officials were injured in the attack and the Incendiary explosive were used in the blast due to which all the nearby vehicles caught fire.” The Inter Services Public Relations reported that the terrorists had used incendiary explosives due to which many vehicles in the affected area also caught fire.
So far no terror outfit has claimed for the responsibility of this attack. The Chinese news agency Xinhua reported, that four rickshaws, two cars and two motorbikes were caught fire in that explosion. The site was investigated by security officers and an emergency has been declared after the blast.
Dawn quoted the Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa as saying as ,”It was an attempt to affect the Independence Day festivity in the city but the army’s resolve would not succumb by any challenge.”
During his visit to the blast hit area the minister will be reviewing the security situation in Quetta and later the prime minister would brief about the same.
Dawn report told that the warning threat had already been issued, two weeks ago that stated that an explosive laden vehicle had entered in Quetta and there was possibility of a blast near a crowded place. Since, the Independence Day was near the security arrangements had already been beefed up in the area.
Since the last few months, some incidents have been taking place in the country. In June, at least 14 people were killed and 19 were injured when a suicide blast hit the Shuhada Chowk on Gulistan Road area in which three security officials were also injured.
In Jiwani area of Gwadar district two navy sailors lost their lives and three were found injured after their vehicle was attacked in June.
