The two senior doctors in Jodhpur’s Umaid Hospital on Tuesday were sacked after they were purportedly seen fighting inside an operation theater amid surgery of a woman in a video. Shot by nursing staff and came out through the hospital sources, the video, revealed clearly that the assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology Dr. Ashok Nanival, who’s seen operating the patient in a video, was arguing with a professor of anaesthesia Dr. Mathura Lal Tak using dirty words. On the other hand, the identity of the two doctors was affirmed by the hospital, which ordered a probe too.
Ranjana Desai, the superintendent of the hospital, said that the lady was carried in a serious condition and was promptly moved to the operating theater for a C-section. However, she lost her child in a short time later. “We are yet to ascertain if the newborn’s death was because of the spat. The cause of death is severe birth asphyxia,” she said. The two sacked doctors did not accept calls. The video clearly revealed the two doctors yelling at each other, cautioning them to keep a control on their language and fighting over on some of their own ego issues. The ANI reported that the Rajasthan High Court has asked for a report on this whole incident by Wednesday 2 pm.
The principal of Dr. SN Medical College and controller of Umaid hospital, Dr. Amilal Bhat, cleared that the two doctors were expelled quickly after the issue was reported to him. He said to the Hindustan Times over a call that “I recommended disciplinary action against the two to the government and formed an inquiry committee for further probe”. The state’s medical education department concluded the services of Dr. Nanival as an assistant professor and demoted him to the position of medical officer (MO) in the medical and health department on Tuesday evening. While coming into action against Dr. Tak, the medical college recorded to the department of personnel. Dr. Bhat said, “Dr. Nanival was appointed an assistant professor on the urgent/ temporary basis. The medical education department has to power to terminate such appointments. For Dr. Tak, who is a senior professor, the action will be taken by the DOP.”
Headed by Dr. Desai and comprises the head of anesthesia Prof UD Sharma and pediatrician Dr. Rakesh Jora as members, the probe will be in the hands of Dr. Desai and team. Desai said that “We recorded statements of everyone present in the OT during the spat until 1 am Tuesday night and are preparing a report to submit to the principal”.
