A big relief for the self-styled Godman Sant Rampal as the Hisar court acquitted him in two criminal cases on Tuesday in which both the eyewitnesses and the complainant turned hostile. Speaking to the reporters outside Hisar Central Jail, where a special court was set up to announce the verdict on the self-styled Godman, Rampal’s lawyer A P Singh said, “Sant Rampal has been acquitted in the two criminal cases. He has been acquitted in the two cases (426 and 427). It’s a victory of truth.”
As good news for the Sant Rampal, the self-styled Godman is cleared of two charges – hindering government servants from doing their duty and illegal confinement of people. The self-styled Godman Sant Rampal, however, will still remain in jail as he faces charges in no less than eight cases. There’s one case back in 2005 where a villager was shot dead in Hisar. “Besides these two FIRs, there are few more criminal cases yet pending against him that includes heinous crimes. Thus, he shall continue to stay in jail,” the public prosecutor Rajesh Chaudhary said. The self-styled Godman is at present lodged in Hisar Central Jail. The verdict is announced the jail premises as the Judicial Magistrate First Class Mukesh Kumar held the court in the jail premises.
To take care of the law and order situation in Hisar, the state police had hiked up security in and around Hisar. In November 2014, the 57-year old Godman was arrested after he made many attempts to run away from the arrest. The security forces enclosed the self-styled Godman Sant Rampal’s Satlok Ashram in Hisar causing extensive turbulence. Following the 57-year old Godman’s ignorance to appear in court 43 times, the police were ordered to arrest him. As Rampal was not surrendering to the authorities peacefully, the authorities closed the basic facilities like water and power supply to the Ashram. This confrontation continued for the next two weeks. Two cases were registered against the 57-year old Godman and 11 others in the link with the violence that killed five women and a baby.
