GATE 2018 Online Application Released Check Examination Pattern and Marking Scheme

2018 GATE examination date has been released, and the online registration process has been started. So the candidates who were eagerly waiting for the said from can now register themselves for the said exam, as per the official notification the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is scheduled to be conducted on

  • February 3
  • February 4
  • February 10
  • February 11

(GATE 2018) for admissions into post-graduate programmes like

  • ME
  • MTech
  • Direct PhD

With financial assistance provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and other government agencies,GATE exam is conducted in Indian institutes of higher education.

The convener for GATE 2018 is the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT G) is the papers of the 2018 examination GATE consist of 65 questions for a total of 100 marks and will be conducted for 3 hours duration. The question paper will consist of both multiple choice questions (MCQ) and numerical answer type (NAT) questions. In all papers, GA questions carry a total of 15 marks.

  • The GA section includes 5 questions carrying 1-mark each (sub-total 5 marks)
  • And 5 questions carrying 2-marks each (sub- total 10 marks)

Question papers other than GG, XE and XL: These 25 questions papers would contain, 1-mark each (sub-total 25 marks) and (sub-total 60 marks) 30 questions carrying 2-marks each consisting of both the MCQ and NAT questions.

GG (Geology and Geophysics) Paper: The GG question paper consists of two parts: Part A and Part B. Apart from the General Aptitude (GA) section

  • Part A is compulsory for all the candidates
  • Part B contains two sections: Section 1 (Geology) and Section 2 (Geophysics).

Either in Part A and questions in either Section 1 or Section 2 of Part B, Candidates will have to attempt questions.

XE Paper (Engineering Sciences): The XE paper has to answer the following:

  • GA – General Aptitude carrying a total of 15 marks.
  • Any two of XE Sections B to H

Section A – Engineering Mathematics (Compulsory) is the section which contains 11 questions carrying a total of 15 marks.

Any two of XE Sections B to H

XL Paper (Life Sciences): In the XL paper has to answer the following:

  • GA – General Aptitude carrying a total of 15 marks.

Section P- Chemistry (Compulsory): This section contains 15 questions carrying a total of 25 marks.

  • Any two of XL Sections Q to U

GATE 2018 would contain questions of two different types in all the papers:

  • In all the papers and sections Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) carrying 1 or 2 marks each .These questions are objective in nature, and each will have a choice of four answers, out of which the candidate has to select (mark) the correct answer
  • In all the papers and sections, Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions carrying 1 or 2 marks each
  • There will be negative marking, For a wrong answer chosen in a MCQ. For 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise, for 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer
  • And no negative marking for a wrong answer in NAT questions.
