On Sunday Piyush Goyal was appointed as the new Railway Minister after the Cabinet reshuffle. Today even coaches of Shaktipunj Express derail in UP, But till now no injuries have been reported yet. This is the first derailment after Piyush Goyal joined as new Railway Minister.
Early this morning at least seven coaches of the Shaktipunj Express – bound for Jabalpur from Howrah – derailed in Sonbhadra district of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The train was running at a speed of about 40 km per hour which prevented any injuries when the incident occurred, said the railway officer.
And around 6:25 am the Shaktipunj Express derailment occurred. All of them had left the spot, as no passengers got any injury. Quick arrangements were made by the government, to control the situation. The passengers were put on the remaining coaches and by 7:28 am all. No passenger was injured in the accident.
This is the for the third time the train got derailed in the state within a month.
As on 19 August, the Kalinga Utkal Express got derailed in Muzaffarnagar district, in which 156 got badly injured and 22 people was dead.
It was an severe accident as because the coaches could be seen mounted on another while another coach had crashed into a building along the tracks, the drastic impact of the accident was very much severe.
The then railway minister Suresh Prabhu had announced an ex-gratia:
- Rs 3.5 lakh each to the kin of those who lost their lives
- Rs 50,000 each for those seriously injured
- Rs 25,000 for passengers with minor injuries
on 23 August, Kaifiyat Express train got derailed in which more than 100 passengers were wounded, when 10 coaches of got crashing into a dumper which strayed on to the tracks in Auraiya district, nine coaches of the Delhi-bound Kaifiyat Express derailed.
At around 2:50 am on that day between Pata and Achhalda railway stations, the train travelling from Azamgarh to Delhi collided with a dumper. One compartment of the train was wrong way up due to impact of the collision and some compartments jumped the rails between Acchalda and Pata railway stations after crossing Kanpur. And more than 74 people were injured because of the derailment.
On 3rd September, Prabhu who had taken the “moral responsibility” for a recent epidemic of train accidents bade farewell to the Railway Ministry and moved on to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and after that Piyush Goyal took the charge of the important portfolio which runs the transportation behemoth.
Since 23rd August Prabhu, was also not attending any function of the ministry since then and even was not attending his Rail Bhavan office, he had taken moral responsibility of the slew of accidents last month and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi offering his resignation.
Prabhu praised Goyal for taking charge as the new railway minister, “For the past 20 years. From time to time we have had the chance to work together. It is a very emotional day for me (Prabhu) has been mentoring me, directing me and taking care of me,” he had said.
