The UP government has issued a new drive to verify thousands of passports in Deoband and its neighboring districts of Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar amid the reports of terror elements in the town. This directive was issued after the arrest of two suspected Bangladeshi terrorists who had succeeded to get Indian passports showing Deoband addresses. As per the police’s suspicion, the several members of the Pakistan and Bangladesh-based terror outfits are hiding in Deoband, which is the home to Darul Uloom Deoband.
According to the media reports, the state government has directed the District Magistrates to take stern action against all the Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in the state, especially after the arrest of the two Bangladeshi terrorists. The state government, on the other hand, also warned of strict action against those officials who are found guilty of issuing fake ID cards for Bangladeshi nationals while they illegally stay here. The probe is also being with an angle that some local policemen may be helping the alleged Bangladeshi terrorists in protecting the Indian passports.
“It’s not only about Deoband or any particular community. The verification of passport holders will take place in entire Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur owing to inputs we have received that a few terror modules could be hiding in the area,” Saharanpur DIG KS Emmanuel was quoted by saying as per media reports. The senior cop also revealed that the two suspected Bangladeshi terrorists got their passports made in Saharanpur. In August this year, a Bangladeshi national Abdullah Al-Mamon was arrested from Muzaffarnagar. He was suspected to be a member of banned terror outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), who is believed to have stayed in Deoband for some years.
