On Tuesday afternoon, eight people were killed and more than a dozen injured after a man drove a truck almost a mile down a bike path in Manhattan, banging a school bus, cyclists, and pedestrians. The New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the incident was being learned as an act of terror, “a particularly cowardly act of terror”. Blasio added that a police officer stopped the attacker by shooting him in the stomach.

According to the New York police department (NYPD), the 29-year-old suspect after crashing the school bus, injuring two adults and two children, retired the truck displaying “imitation firearms” and was shot by a policeman. The attacker is in the custody, and a paintball gun and a pellet gun were recovered at the scene. The police said that the truck went towards south after entering a pedestrian and bicycle path, where it bashed many people. Six men were declared at the spot on the cycle line and two other people succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. “It is a very painful day in our city,” De Blasio said.

The officials revealed on the condition of anonymity identified Saipov (suspect) as the attacker and said the 29-year-old migrant basically belongs from Uzbekistan. They added that he came to the US legally in 2010 and it is believed that he first lived in Ohio after his arrival. Dilnoza Abdusamatova, an acquaintance, said Saipov temporarily stayed with their family in a Cincinnati suburb at the time of immigrating. “He always used to work. He wouldn’t go to parties or anything. He only used to come home and rest and leave and go back to work,” Abdusamatova told The Cincinnati Enquirer. Seemed a “very good guy”, said Kobiljon Matkorav to The New York Times, a friend who met Saipov in Florida. Mathkorav added that “My kids like him too. He is always playing with them”.
