On Saturday, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) permitted the Delhi government to implement the odd-even car rationing scheme from November 13 to 17 with very tight rules this time. Unlike the last time the scheme was implemented, two-wheelers, government servants, and women will also have to obey the rules of the odd-even scheme.
On the past day, the NGT had criticized the Delhi government harshly for deciding to execute the scheme so late. The NGT had asked the government why it has not launched the odd-even car rationing scheme earlier in the week when the air quality was much worse. It also wondered why so many would be free from the odd-even rule. The NGT questioned how the Delhi government supposed to advance air quality if so many didn’t have to follow the car rationing rule. The NGT announced its judgment at a special meeting it had called today to decide whether the scheme will lessen the near deadly levels of smog in Delhi and in the National Capital Region (NCT).
