On Monday, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) capped the limit of devotees visiting Vaishno Devi Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir to 50,000 a day. The environmental-protection court said that once the daily limit will be reached, no additional person would be allowed to enter the shrine at either Katra or Ardhkuwari.
The green court said that the limit was being executed as the physical integrity of the cave shrine should not be compromised because of the extra burden of additional pilgrims. The court added that a new path to Vaishno Devi wholly for pedestrians and battery-operated cars will be opened from November 24. The Minister of State for Finance Ajay Nanda said that terror strikes and natural disasters have impacted in the number of pilgrims visiting the holy shrine. “
