*No less than 14 people were killed and 19 others found wounded in a fire that broke out just after midnight on the third floor of a four-storeyed building on Senapati Bapat Marg.
*More than 50 people were hospitalized, out of which 12 were being treated for injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
*Many people who tried to use the shelter in the bathroom got trapped and lost their lives.
*Most of the victims were women attending a birthday party at the restaurant. Among who died in the incident was the 28-year-old woman celebrating her birthday, her grandfather told Reuters.
*The PTI reported that police have booked Hratesh Sanghvi, Jigar Sanghvi and Abhijeet Manka of C Grade Hospitality under various charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Under IPC sections 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), they’re charged as well.
*The reason behind the fire is yet to be discovered.
*The President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted about the incident that “Disturbing news about the fire in Mumbai. Condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured an early recovery. Commend the valiant efforts of fire-fighters and those in rescue ops #PresidentKovind”.
*Anguished at the incident that took place, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Anguished by the fire in Mumbai, My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. I pray that those injured recover quickly.”
*The Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has been directed by Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to conduct an in-depth inquiry into the misfortune.
