In a massive improvised explosive device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, four police officers were killed and two others injured in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore, as per the reports. According to the News18 report, a police vehicle ran over the planted IED causing the explosion. The injured were shifted to the hospital and a search operation is ongoing, a police officer told IANS.
The Indian Express reported that heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces were there in Sopore at the time of the incident to avert any protests in view of the shutdown called by separatists on Saturday. The J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned the attack in a tweet. She added that the policemen were killed when they were on duty to safeguard the people in the town. The chief minister said, “The vortex of violence in the state needs to be broken and for that every section of society has to work shoulder to shoulder.” This incident took place just days following two heavily armed militants attacked a CRPF camp in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing personnel and leaving two others injured.
