As the Chennai Super Kings has returned to the Indian Premier League, the Dhoni’s team has made sure to retain a core set of the team for the upcoming edition. Before the auction, they had retained MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Ravinder Jadeja, whereas they kept Dwayne Bravo in the set-up by using the Right to Match card. Here’s an analysis at the squad of CSK for the 2018 edition.
Strength: The biggest strength for Chennai Super Kings is that it has the balance side for the upcoming IPL edition. They have experienced players like MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, Ravindra Jadeja and all these players are well-experienced to the shortest format of cricket. CSK lose R Ashwin to Kings XI Punjab but they got Harbhajan Singh as his replacement in the team. Singh played for Mumbai Indians for last ten seasons and had been a valuable player for the team. Harbhajan’s experience is going to help CSK in every manner.
Weakness: CSK could have bought an extra pace bowler instead of going for a wicket-keeper batsman like Sam Billings. As Dhoni will be in the team and the limitation of playing just four overseas players, it seems Billings might not get a chance to be in the team. The only place where CSK lacks is in pace department but going by the past CSK trends, they are famous to field more spinners.
