After witnessing a series of controversies for over a year, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat has finally released on January 25, 2018, storming now at the box office. The film starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh has been performing very well at the box office and breaking some box office records on the domestic and international since its release.

The Bhansali’s historical drama has stayed rock steady on the seventh day of its release and has earned Rs 12.25 crore, according to a recent report on Boxofficeindia.com. The collection of Padmaavat stands at high Rs 149 crore and is gearing up towards the 200 crore mark now. Despite the fact that the film had not released in some states, it still is making wonders at the Indian box office. Padmaavat is based on 16th Century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s poem. It got delayed due to the protests by various Rajput groups, including the Karni Sena, alleging that it distorts historical facts, which was frequently denied by filmmaker Bhansali.

While commenting on the ‘Padmaavat’, Shahid, who portrayed the role of Maharaja Ratan Singh in the film said, “We missed out on a lot of things. We had to make lots of sacrifices. We had to learn to keep a lot of emotions in our hearts for one-and-a-half years in check. We had to be politically correct. The film had to go through a lot. But, today we feel vindicated.”
