Under-19 World Cup: Manjot’s ton helped India beating Australia by 8 wickets


The Indian team defeated Austraila by 8 wickets in the ICC Under 19 World final on Saturday afternoon to win the World Cup trophy. The team in blue had defeated the three-time champions at Bay Oval. India, who were playing for the record sixth final have won for the record-fourth time as well, previous was being in 2000, 2008, and 2012.

Indian team bowled exceptionally well and it helped them in restricting Australian team at just 216. Talking about the Indian batting hero of the day, Manjot Kalra, who played an important inning of 101, led the team to victory. Kalra was awarded as Man of the Match as well. The most talked players Prithvi Shaw and Shubham Gill failed to create any magic in the match but Kalra played an important inning and took the match away from the hands of the opposition. Picking to bat first after winning the toss, the Australians lost their top three batsmen with just 59 runs on the board as pacer Ishant Porel’s twin strikes helped in making them out.

Following this, Merlo and Param Uppal strengthened the team with a 75-run fourth wicket stand that witnessed them going over the 100-run mark. India’s Ishan Porel, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shiva Singh and Anukul Roy took two wickets each while Shivam Mavi took one. Harvik Desai ended the match in style with a boundary. The young cricket stars of Indian cricket have launched themselves to the world and that too with a loud noise.
