The Shahrukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is all set for a new start under the lead of newly-appointed captain Dinesh Karthik for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 52-year-old actor welcomed the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman on Monday on his appointment.
The KKR had to find a new captain for the team following the exit of Gautam Gambhir ahead of IPL 2018 auction. In the time of Gautam’s captaincy, KKR had won IPL titles twice in the past, but the former Indian cricket team opener was not retained by the KKR heads. Dinesh Karthik, who is a prominent run-making machine in domestic T20 tournaments, has now been given the extra responsibility of taking KKR ahead in his first season with the KKR. As all the teams are geared up for the tournament starting on April 7, KKR co-owner Shahrukh Khan welcomed the newly-appointed KKR captain Karthik through a tweet.
“As we stand poised for a new season of KKR we welcome @DineshKarthik as our Captain. Like our Captains over the yrs we know u will also lead us by boosting the self esteem & dignity of all of us,” the 52-year-old actor tweeted. Commenting on his appointment, Karthik said he hopes to match India captain Virat Kohli by leading from the front. “Virat Kohli leads from the front. He sets an example with his own performances. That is something I would like to do as well — lead by an example rather than by too many words,” said Karthik. He added that though he may seem aggressive, but it is a trait that defines him.
“By nature, I am not that aggressive outwardly. But from inside, I am very aggressive. I like to do small things on the field that really matter — like looking into the eyes of your rivals. I love to be there in tough situations and face the heat. I am not going to stop players who want to express their aggression on the field, although I would try to control them to ensure they don’t get fined,” Karthik added.
