Ravi Shastri has been selected as the next coach of Team India on Tuesday. His tenure will last for two years. Earlier on Monday, BCCI’s CAC committee had interviewed candidates for the post of coach. After the interview process, CAC member Sourav Ganguly had announced that the name of the coach will be announced after the captain Virat Kohli returned from New York.but administrator’s committee member Vinod Rai told the BCCI that the name of the coach will be announced today. After which, Shastri was officially announced as the coach of Indian Cricket Team.

Shastri has been selected as coach for two years that means he will be coach till 2019 World Cup. Shastri’s tenure begins with the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. Shastri has previously been the director of Team India. After this Anil Kumble was selected as coach and after the little conflict with Ganguly, it was believed that this time Shastri would not get the chance, but captain Kohli’s choice was preferred.

The news of Shastri’s appointment as head coach will not surprise many, given his work as team director for an 18-month period and the relationship he shares with Kohli and other members of the team. The former allrounder turned TV commentator and analyst, who played 80 Tests and 150 ODIs and led India in one Test, was brought in by the BCCI in August 2014. Shastri took over as the team director after the loss of 1-3 in the Test series against England in August 2014 and he was in the post till the Twenty20 World Cup. During that time, Team India defeated England for the first time in the one-day series in England. In the Twenty-20 series team India defeated  Australia in their home ground.

Last month, Shastri threw his name into contention for the vacant coach’s role after the BCCI, in the aftermath of Kumble’s resignation, decided to invite more applicants despite criticism by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators
