Congress President Rahul Gandhi demands apology from RSS for ‘insulting’ remarks on Indian Army

The Congress President Rahul Gandhi condemned the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat today for his “disrespectful” comments against Indian Army. In a scorching tweet, the 47-year-old president demanded an apology from RSS following Bhagwat questioned: “preparedness of Indian Army to fight enemies at the border”.

“Shame on you Mr. Bhagwat, for disrespecting our martyrs and our Army,” tweeted Gandhi. Using the hashtag “#ApologizeRSS, Rahul Gandhi further tweeted, “The RSS chief’s speech is an insult to every Indian because it disrespects those who have died for our nation. It is an insult to our flag because it insults every soldier who ever saluted it.” The Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani and Patidar activist Hardik Patel, on the other hand, also joined Gandhi in attacking the RSS chief. “RSS is an army of underwear-clad men who spark riots in country. I urge Bhagwat to go sell pakodas across country so that Modi can give government jobs to youth of our country,” Jignesh Mevani tweeted.

Also, Mevani’s colleague Patel said “no one needs to learn patriotism” from Bhagwat. “A case should be registered against Bhagwat for calling Indian Army weak,” Patel tweeted. The RSS chief incited a row on Sunday following he compared Sangh cadre with Indian Army personnel. “Despite not being a military organization, Sangh can prepare military personnel within three days which the Army normally takes months to do. This is our capability,” said Mohan Bhagwat while speaking at an RSS function in Muzaffarnagar, Bihar. “If the nation requires, and our constitution permits, the RSS is ready to go to border and fight for country’s safety,” Bhagwat said.

On Saturday, Rahul Gandhi said that “Like many Indians across the country, I’m an idealist” after taking over as Congress President from his mother Sonia Gandhi, who enjoyed the post for 19 years. The 47-year-old leader said in his first speech as the Congress President on the overcoming political atmosphere in the country and blasted an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Congress took India to the 21st century, but the PM, today, is taking us back to the medieval times,” Gandhi said without taking the name of PM Modi. Gandhi hit at the PM and said that he alone has become the “voice of reason”. “We are now being compelled to imagine that businesses can be built without harmony, that only one man himself is the voice of reason. Expertise, experience, and knowledge can be cast aside for personal glory,” Gandhi added. He later warned BJP against “setting the nation on fire” and alleged that they are blamable for spreading violence across the country.

“You have an example in front of you, once fire breaks out it is difficult to douse it, that is what we are telling the people of BJP, that if you set the nation on fire it will be difficult to control. Today BJP has spread the fire of violence across the country,” the 47-year-old leader said. He further asked the party workers and leaders of the party to come ahead and stop BJP’s “attempts to spread violence”. “And if there is anyone who can stop what the BJP is doing, it is the ‘pyara karyakarta and neta’ of Congress. We are going to make Congress, grand old and young party. We will fight the politics of anger,” Gandhi added.

At the AICC headquarters in Delhi, Gandhi received the Certificate of Election from the party’s Central Election Authority president Mullapally Ramachandran at a ceremony, The former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, current and former chief ministers, MPs, senior Congress leaders, and all PCC chiefs and delegates, as well as his sister Priyanka and brother-in-law Robert Vadra attended the ceremony.

Mani Shankar Aiyar Senior Congress leader reacted today to a question by media about Rahul Gandhi taking over from Sonia Gandhi as the president of the Congress party. As per, him only two people could become the next President of the Congress party.

As per the news agency, Aiyar said that ”I think Rahul already said he is ready to contest an election and only two people can be Congress President, mother or son.”

Lal Thanawala Mizoram Chief Minister said that the Congress has unanimously decided to elevate Rahul Gandhi as its president as it needs a leader in place of Sonia Gandhi who faces health issues. “Our country has various types of leaders. Some leaders are imposed, and some leaders are made Rahul Gandhi is not a willing politician but the party needs a strong, good leadership,” he said, he further showed his concerns over Sonia Gandhi’s health, that the party wants Rahul Gandhi as its new leader.

By October 31 Rahul Gandhi is likely to be announced as the Congress president, taking the mantle from his own mother Sonia Gandhi who steered the party for the long 19 years.

Sachin Pilot Congress MP hinted at the possibility of Rahul to take over his mother mostly after Diwali. The pilot said that the “general sentiment” in the party is that he should lead from the front and “take over as the party president”. He further added that “Congress Organisational elections are underway and the new president could take over shortly after Diwali. And the things have been set from the very long time.”

So after Diwali, we hope that Congress will soon announce their new president.
