On Thursday, In the Mexican Pacific resort of Acapulco 28 inmates were killed when a brutal fight broke out in a prison. In recent years this was one of the worst outbreaks of violence in the country’s troubled penal system.
Acapulco which is One of Mexico’s most lawless states is the biggest city in Guerrero and a center of opium poppy production that has been a major concern to US officials.
Particularly, The prison carnage was embarrassing to Mexico as it came the same day US Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly was visiting Guerrero in Mexico’s southwest.
Roberto Alvarez , the Guerrero state official told reporters that the fight broke out between the rival gangs in the maximum security wing of the prison. He said 28 were dead and three people were injured.
He said, Throughout the wing the Authorities found that the bodies inside and outside the kitchen as well as the area for conjugal visits. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the law enforcement official told four of the dead were decapitated.
Also, The Alvarez told news agency Reuters that the prison was close to 30 % over his capacity. He said, It was built for 1624 inmates and 1951 men and 110 women were behind its walls.
Alvarez said, Despite of the reports of gunfire in the prison all the casualties were due to the wounds from sharp instruments weapons that are fashioned by inmates.
In recent months the Violent crime in Mexico has jumped on the track to be one of its bloodiest on record.
In the first 5 months of 2017, The number of murder cases jumped nearly 30 percent and the murder investigations hit a high record in May.

On Wednesday,14 people were killed in the police shootout in the northern state of Chihuahua and 17 suspected gang members were shot dead by the police on Friday near Mazatlan in home state of Sinaloa.
But in recent, Thursday’s fight is the worst outbreak of the violence that happened inside a Mexican prison since last year in which 49 people died in a battle between members of the feared Zetas drug cartel and the rivals who were at prison in the northern industrial city of Monterrey.
