US Joins Battle as Philippines Looses in Besieged City


On Saturday, Special forces of U.S have joined the fight to beat Islamist militants who holed up in a southern Philippines town, according to the report. As government forces are struggling to make headway and 13 marines were killed in the intense urban fighting.

The military of Philippines  said that  the United States was giving all its technical assistance and had help to an end the siege of the Marawi City by the fighters allied to the Islamic State, which is now in the third week of this , but it had no way to boots on the ground.

Lieutenant Colonel Ar Herrera, the military spokesman said  that they are not fighting. They are only providing technical support,”  told this to a news conference in the Marawi City.

The U.S. embassy confirmed they had offered  their support to them at the request of the government of Philippines, but they gave no more  details about this. Media saith that On friday, a P3 Orion surveillance plane of U.S was seen flying over the town.

The co-operation between the longtime allies is important and necessary because President Rodrigo Duterte, who has came to its power about a year ago, has taken all the  hostile stance toward the Washington and has vowed to eliminate the  U.S. military trainers and suggestions from his country.

On May 23, The seizure of the  Marawi City has alarmed the Southeast Asian nations which fear that the islamic State is facing many setbacks in  Iraq and Syria as they are establishing a stronghold on the Philippine island of the Mindanao that could be a threaten for the whole region.

Near about  40 foreigners have also fought along with  the Philippines militants in the Marawi City, most of them are from Indonesia and Malaysia, though some of them come from the Middle East.  

On friday, The Philippines military has  suffered one of its biggest one-day loss  as since  10 troops were killed in a friendly-fire incident on June 1. Herrera said that 13 marines conducting the  clearing operations died after an “intense” house-to-house firefight during which they encountered the improvised explosive devices and were attacked by the rocket-propelled grenades.

58 people who are the security forces get their way  towards the death in this fight  along with the twenty civilians and more than a hundred rebel fighters are also killed in this  Marawi fighting.


There are at least 200 militants are hanged up in a corner of the town. An estimated of  500 to 1,000 civilians are holded down there, out of which  some being held as the human shields, while others are hiding in their own homes with no access to drinking water, electricity or food for their living.

The military said that  they was making a way in the town but was proceeding carefully so as not to destroy mosques where some of the militants had taken up positions.

Herrera said on Friday that they  give premium to the mosques, because that was very symbolic to their Muslim brothers..

Christian are in majority in The Philippines, but Mindanao has a large no of  population of Muslims and Marawi City is also consist mostly of  Muslim.

Maute group is One of the main Islamist state dug in and around the heart of the city, a relative newcomer amid the throng of the insurgents, the separatists and also the  bandits on the Mindanao.

Herrera said that the military was following the reports about the two Maute brothers who founded the group had also  been killed. He added to his speech that they  are still awaiting confirmation.”We are still validating for those  reports but there are strong indications about their death” he said.

Maute joined the forces with the Isnilon Hapilon ,last year who was  appointed  by the Islamic State as its Southeast Asia “emir”. Military officials believe Hapilon is still in the town.

The military has said that they are aiming to end the fight  by Monday, and will then celebrate the Philippines’ independence day.
